Art 2
Final Project
For this project, we got to choose what we wanted to make. I chose to draw Mrs. Borger, one of my favorite teachers, with a low taper fade. I did this because I thought it would be really cool and be fun to draw. I drew this in pencil I started with measuring out the proportions of her face to try and get it as exact as possible. Then I went in with all of the details I found it hard to draw her screaming because I've never drawn someone screaming before. I think I did a really good job still and my favorite part of this drawing is the hair. I tfhink I did really well on the hair considering I could not shave her hair and get it the way I want so I kind of had to guess how it would look on her. It was a struggle but I think it turned out really well and I am really proud of it.
Watercolor Painting
For this project, we had to create a landscape in watercolor. To start this, we had to stretch the watercolor paper, which means to put it in water until it is not buckling. Then we had to grab a board and watercolor tape and tape it down to the board to try to minimize buckling during painting. After all of this, I sketched and started painting. We learned a lot of techniques like washes and tape masking. I mostly used washes and blotting throughout the painting to fix mistakes and for overall color and texture. My favorite part of this was mixing colors and making the sun rays come through the trees. My least favorite part was transferring the sketch to the watercolor painting.
3D Box Print
For this project, we had to create a box for marketing. We did this to show the career of industrial design and how often it is used. We came up with a box that had to have some sort of purpose so we could market it. I decided to make a jewelry box. It had two racks to hang earrings from, three hooks to hand necklaces from, and two rods to put rings on. We also had to make a special feature that we designed in a drawing and then made digital. My design was a door because I wanted to be sort of whimsical box. I also wanted to add flowers, but I didn't have time. My box did end up warping on the bottom, but there were still a lot of people who didn't have their box printed, so I didn't want to make another one. I liked designing the door for this project, I think it was my favorite part overall. I don't really like designing things in 3D, I found it kind of hard to get things exactly where I wanted them.
Lino Cut Printing
For this project, we had to make a print by cutting a design into a piece of linoleum using a gouge. After that, we had to use a brayer, which we rolled out on a piece of plastic with ink on it. Then we had to place a piece of paper on top of the print and use a baron to press it on the paper evenly. We practiced using a piece made out of a cork material that I didn't like because it didn't cut as easily as the one we did our final one. The big piece of linoleum that we used for our final project had an eraser texture and was much easier to cut. I had to be careful cutting my design because I had words and a lot of thin details. With this project we also had to express an emotion, I tried to represent relief and sadness.
Ukranian Egg Decorating
For this project, we had to make a pysanky which is an egg covered in wax and dye to make designs on the egg. This project was super hard because we had to use these tiny instruments which made even tinier lines, these were called kistkas. We had to be really steady and careful because if the wax was too melted it would come off in a big blob and mess up your lines. I did end up cracking my first egg so I had to put a rush on the second one but I did finish in time. Even though the process is pretty tedious it was also really fun I enjoyed doing this project and if I had the time I would do it again.
Final Project First Semester
For this project, I worked with my friend Aniesha and we connected our projects. We started with a sketch to connect our paintings to one another. We decided on a river turning into a waterfall and to add ourselves as fairies. Then we decided the colors we wanted to use. Then we went in with a blue wash and decided that we wanted it to be mostly blue undertones throughout the painting. Throughout the whole process we were constantly communicating with each other and making sure it looked like they were actually supposed to go together. I believe that was the hardest part because while our art styles are similar they are still very different as well. We go about different ways in textures so we had to keep up with each other and see if we were on the same page constantly. This is one of my favorite projects I have done yet, I have done collaborative projects with people before but not for a grade. I would do it again though it was very fun.
SIU Project
For this project we went to SIU and we were taught a couple lessons and then got to create something based on it. I chose Visual Storytelling and tried to tell a story about how I struggle with getting help and helping other people. This also calls attention to how social media is negatively affecting kids specifically because there is so much awareness now in the world. This causes little kids to become aware of world problems that they can't even help solve until they're at least 18. I had a lot of fun with this project by cutting out magazines and newspapers to sketching and painting out the girl in the center. In the beginning I had a lot of problems with trying to find my prompt that I wanted to use because they were confusing but I ended up choosing one. I liked working with mixed media and I thought it was very fun.
Portrait
For this project we made a portrait of someone. I chose my friend Aniesha for this because I see her everyday and I thought it would be easy. I started with some guidelines to try to estimate where the main features were at. I had some trouble placing the nose and had to move it a lot but I pretty much got all the other proportions correct. I had a bit of a hard time knowing where to shade and how dark to shade, but I eventually got it figured out. I liked this project overall I think it really pulled together in the end but I still don't think I put the nose in the correct spot. My main thing that I really enjoyed was shading around the eyes and the mouth I found it really fun to find where things are darker and lighter. I think I did a really good job.
Sketchbook
For my sketchbook I chose the chevron design. At first it was hard cause I had to figure out how to measure everything but after that it was pretty easy. I think I am really good at following instructions and I have a lot of sewing practice. After that I just had to cut out my cover and the fabric. Then I had to glue it down I put some pressure on it to make sure it was on good. Next I started on my end pages and got all my sketchbook pages together. Then I measured again to fit my design on it and had Mrs. Fiedler drill the holes. After that I sewed it all together and I am very happy with the result. If it didn't take so long I would probably do it again cause my sketchbook looks very pretty to me.
